Bastian Hess is an ecological modeller with background in forest science and ecology. He holds a M.Sc. in Forest-ecosystem analysis and information processing from the University of Göttingen (Germany) and a M.Sc. in Forest Management from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.
His research interests are the ecological modelling of human/environment interactions for decision support and sustainability, individual-based modelling, biodiversity, plant ecology, forest management, and nature conservation. Currently, he is involved as a PhD student in the BMBF-project IDESSA where he is working on the modelling of savanna dynamics in southern Africa
